Why pondless
All the sound of moving water, none of the upkeep of a pond
A pondless waterfall is the feature Jordan builds for people who want to hear water from the kitchen window and do not want fish, a net or an open pond. The stream tumbles over boulders and disappears into a bed of gravel. Under that gravel sits a hidden basin and a pump that sends the water back to the top. You get the falls and the stream. You skip the pond.
Turn it on when you get home. Sit on the porch with a drink and let it drown out the road. Kids and grandkids splash in a stream that is never more than an inch or two deep. Birds come to drink at the falls, and when the house is empty you can switch the whole thing off with one flick.
- Safe for kids, pets and front yards. There is no open water to fall into, so it can sit by the front walk where everyone sees it.
- No fish to look after. Nothing to feed, and no heron standing at the edge waiting for breakfast.
- Runs on a hidden basin. The reservoir sits under the gravel, so the yard shows boulders and a stream, not a pool.
- Runs through winter or shuts down. Jordan can leave it running for the ice formations or shut it down for the season. Your call.

What is included
What Jordan builds into every pondless waterfall
The parts you see are stone and water. The parts that keep it running for years are underneath.
A stream bed
Shaped to your slope and lined with rubber liner, then covered in gravel and river stone so no liner ever shows. Jordan runs it as long and winding as the yard allows.
A hidden reservoir and pump
A basin under the gravel at the bottom holds the water. The pump sits inside it in a vault you can open for a check, and pushes the water back up to the falls.
Boulders set by hand
Jordan sets each boulder and listens before he moves to the next. The height of the drop and the stone it lands on decide whether you hear a trickle or a rush.
Lighting, if you want it
Low-voltage lights in the falls and along the stream, so the water is still there at nine o'clock. Optional, and priced on the call.
Sizes and prices
Pondless waterfalls start at $2,000 per linear foot
The number is the length of the stream, from the top of the falls to where the water disappears into the gravel, times the rate. The estimate calculator runs the same math and shows a range fifteen percent either side, rounded to the nearest $500, before the site visit settles the real figure.
The height of the drop, the size of the boulders and how far the excavator has to travel move the final price. That is why the estimate is a range and the site visit comes before the contract.
Linear feet times $2,000, before lighting. Every stream is measured on the site visit.
How a pondless waterfall gets built
From a free phone call to the first evening with the water running
A pondless build is a smaller dig than a pond, so the yard is a work zone for less time than you expect, and the sound starts the day the pump goes in.

How long a stream? One tall drop or several small ones? A free phone consultation with Jordan, and the estimate calculator before it if you like numbers first.
Utilities marked, then the onsite visit
Jordan calls it the first day of construction. The stream is marked out on your lawn, you walk the route, and you choose where the falls go and which stone you like.
Expert installation
Excavation, the basin and pump vault, the liner up the stream bed, then boulders and gravel over every inch. Each drop is set stone by stone until it sounds right.
Enjoy your oasis
Water in, pump on, and the yard sounds different that same afternoon. Plants along the edges fill in over the first summer.

Already have a pond?
Convert a pond to pondless, or keep the pond and add the falls
Some people inherit a pond with the house and find they want the sound without the fish. Jordan drains the pond, builds the basin inside the old footprint, and runs the stream over it. The waterfall you already have usually stays. If you would rather keep the pond, a waterfall added to it starts at $950 per linear foot.

Questions
What Richmond homeowners ask about pondless waterfalls
Anything else, ask Jordan on the call.
What exactly is a pondless waterfall?
A pondless waterfall is a waterfall and stream that run into a bed of gravel instead of a pond. Under the gravel, Jordan's Water Garden Solutions builds a hidden reservoir with a pump that sends the water back to the top of the falls. Homeowners in Richmond, VA get the sound and movement of water with no open water in the yard.
Is a pondless waterfall safer for kids or pets?
Yes. There is no open water to fall into, so Jordan's Water Garden Solutions builds pondless waterfalls in front yards and in Richmond homes with toddlers and dogs. The stream is an inch or two deep, which is why kids and grandkids end up playing in it.
Does a pondless waterfall run all year?
It can. A pondless waterfall in Richmond, VA can run through winter, and the ice that forms along the edges is part of the show, as long as the basin stays topped up. If you would rather shut it down for the cold months, Jordan's Water Garden Solutions pulls the pump and drains the lines on a fall service visit. Jordan talks through both options on the call.
Can I convert my pond into a pondless waterfall?
Yes. Jordan's Water Garden Solutions drains the pond, builds the basin and pump vault inside the old footprint, and runs the new stream over it, keeping the existing waterfall where it works. It is a common job around Richmond for owners who want less upkeep. See pond upgrades.
How much maintenance does a pondless waterfall need?
Very little. Top up the basin in hot weather, pull leaves off the stream in fall, and check that the pump sounds right. Jordan's Water Garden Solutions handles a spring clean-out from $925 and a service call from $275 for Richmond, Henrico, Chesterfield and Charlottesville homeowners who would rather not. See pond cleaning and maintenance.
