Fountainscapes and garden fountains in Richmond, VA

Jordan's Water Garden Solutions installs garden fountains in Richmond, Henrico County, Chesterfield County and Charlottesville. Jordan Blanton, an Aquascape Certified Contractor, sets each bowl, urn or spillway on a hidden basin so the water recirculates with no pond to look after. A single fountain starts at $5,300, and the estimate calculator shows the range for two or three elements.

What a fountainscape is

The sound of water without the pond

A fountainscape is a bowl, an urn or a spillway sitting on an underground basin you never see. A pump in the basin pushes water up through the piece, it spills over the rim, falls through the gravel and goes round again. There is no open water and nothing to feed. You get the sound and the movement, and the robins get a place to drink.

It fits where a pond never could, a 3 by 3 ft corner of the patio or the bed by the front door. Put it where you sit in the evening, and the water is the last thing you hear before going in.

  • Low maintenance. Top off the water now and then, and clean the pump filter a few times a year. That is the whole list.
  • Installed as one piece. Basin, pump, plumbing, the fountain itself, then boulders and gravel to finish the ground around it.
  • Power needed nearby. The pump needs an outdoor outlet within reach of the fountain. If you do not have one, Jordan can tell you what the electrician needs to put in.

Fountain types

Four ways to put water in the garden

Every one runs on the same hidden basin. The difference is the piece on top and how the water leaves it.

Fountain bowls

A wide, shallow bowl that fills and brims over all the way round. A soft, even sound. Birds treat it as a bath.

Spillway bowls

A bowl with a lip on one side, so the water leaves as a single sheet and lands on stone. Louder than a brimming bowl, and the sheet catches the light.

Stacked slate urns

A tall urn built from layers of slate. Water bubbles out of the top and runs down the ridges. The one most people picture when they say garden fountain.

Multi-element groupings

Two or three pieces sharing one basin: an urn with a bowl at its foot, or three bowls stepping down a slope. Lit at night, this is the premium option.

Prices

A single fountain starts at $5,300

The price covers the basin, the pump, the plumbing, the fountain piece and the stone around it, installed. Add elements on the same basin and the range moves with them. These are the same numbers the estimate calculator shows.

Fountain repair and service

A fountain that stopped, a pump that hums, a basin losing water

Jordan services fountains he did not build. The usual call is a pump that hums but does not push water, or a basin that needs topping off every other day. Usually it is a clogged pump filter or a split in the tubing, and Jordan finds it on the first visit.

Fountain service calls start at $275. If the pump is past saving, see pump repair and replacement. If the water keeps disappearing, see leak detection and repair, where the visit starts at $495.

How a fountain gets installed

From a free phone call to the first evening with the water on

  1. Start the conversation

A bowl, an urn or a spillway? One piece or three? A free phone consultation with Jordan, and the estimate calculator before it if you like numbers first.

  2. Utilities marked, then the onsite visit

Jordan walks the yard with you, picks the spot where you will hear it, and finds the power source. The basin footprint is marked on the ground before anything is dug.

  3. Expert installation

The basin goes in level, the pump and plumbing are set, the fountain piece is placed and plumbed, then boulders and gravel finish the ground. Jordan adjusts the flow until the sound is right.

  4. Enjoy your oasis

The water runs that afternoon. Jordan shows you the pump filter and the fill line, and that is all you need to know.

Lighting option

The fountain after dark

A light in the basin, aimed up through the falling water, is the difference between a fountain you enjoy until sunset and one you sit with until bedtime. Jordan designs the lighting with the fountain, so the fixtures hide in the gravel and nothing shows but the light on the water. The dusk urn in the gallery above is what it looks like from the porch.

Lighting is not in the starting prices. Say yes to lighting in the estimate calculator and Jordan prices it on the consultation call.

Questions

What Richmond homeowners ask about fountains

Anything else, ask Jordan on the call.

What is a fountainscape, and is it the same as a garden fountain?

Yes. A fountainscape is the name Jordan's Water Garden Solutions uses for a garden fountain built on a hidden underground basin: a fountain bowl, a spillway bowl, a stacked slate urn or a grouping of them, with a pump recirculating the water. It is the garden fountain Richmond homeowners ask for, installed so nothing but the fountain and the gravel shows.

Do I need plumbing or a water hookup?

No. The fountains Jordan's Water Garden Solutions installs in Richmond, VA are self-contained. The basin holds the water, the pump cycles it, and you top it off with a hose when the level drops. What the fountain does need is an outdoor electrical outlet within reach of the pump cord.

How much space do I need?

About 3 by 3 ft for a single fountain, so a patio corner, the bed beside the front door or a spot along a walk will take one. A two or three element grouping needs more room for the shared basin, which Jordan's Water Garden Solutions measures on the site visit in Richmond, Henrico, Chesterfield or Charlottesville.

Can I add lighting?

Yes. Jordan's Water Garden Solutions fits a light in the basin aimed up through the water, and landscape lights around the fountain if you want them, so the fountain is still there after dark. Lighting is priced on the consultation call, separate from the starting prices for the fountain itself.

What is the maintenance like?

Very little. Top off the water when the level drops and clean the pump filter a few times a year. Jordan's Water Garden Solutions can do that for you on a maintenance visit in the Richmond area, and a service call for a fountain that has stopped starts at $275.
